Need some ideas for where to stay in Mykonos? It can be confusing and overwhelming when you’re looking at the different areas and beaches, trying to decide where to stay. Every place looks beautiful (Greeks do hotel design superbly) and it can become quite a dilemma.
There is no bad answer really. I mean, you’ll be vacationing on Mykonos so any decision you make will be fine. However, I do have a point of view that being in walking distance of Mykonos Town (vs. the beach areas) really allows you very easy access to the adorable town, tons of bars and restaurants and the iconic spots such as the Windmills. You’ll also have stunning water views and your hotel pool to lounge at.
My top choice for where to stay in Mykonos is Kouros Boutique Hotel. And I’ll explain why.
1. The Location
Being able to walk into one of the world’s most darling towns is such a huge plus. Kouros is literally in walking distance to everything Mykonos Town has to offer. There are so many restaurants, shops and bars and at night this place just comes alive. The beach areas are a good taxi drive away, so we really appreciated being able to dip in and out of town with no problem. We could go walk and grab breakfast, do some shopping and then come back to the hotel to relax at the pool before we went back out at night and it was just so convenient.
Either way, you’re going to wind up taking a taxi. Either you’re taking a taxi to beaches or a taxi to town and since you’ll want to hit a bunch of different beaches and they all have beach clubs you can post up at, it is a no-brainer to me that I’d rather be able to walk to town for all the shopping, dining and clubbing and taxi to the beach during the day. Korous also sends you off with a nice beach bag with towels so you can easily head off with hotel amenities in your bag.
2. The Pool
The pool area at Kouros is totally top notch. The vibe is amazing with great music and cocktails and it overlooks the sea. It is luxury all the way but also has a fun vibe. The sun sets in the perfect location for the view from the pool to be stunning. The bartenders were awesome and we actually preferred hanging out here than some of the beach clubs.
3. The Ambiance
Korous is a design hotel. Every detail is impeccably chosen. The design lends to the hotel feeling like a true luxury experience. The designer made sure to work with the natural landscape with the design of the outdoor spaces and the colors chosen complemented the natural water surroundings. It is intimate and boutique and has a great vibe.
4. The Service
Everyone we engaged with at the resort really understood hospitality but they were also simply cool people that wanted us to have a good time. They were not just “well-trained” hotel workers, they were warm and friendly people that cared about pointing us in the right direction for restaurants, beaches and other ways to enjoy their island. Their English was also perfect which is always a plus as an English-speaking traveler.
For example, one day when we asked for beach bags and towels, the woman asked us where we were headed. We told her which beach club we were headed to and she gave us great advice that while in June it is one of the top places, in May that would not be the best place to go and instead we should check out this other beach club instead. She also called to make sure we’d have loungers when we got there (it was somewhat exclusive) and got us a taxi. And, she was absolutely right! That place was totally on-point and later in the trip when we actually did go to the other club (against her advice) it was a ghost town.
For all these reasons and more, you will not go wrong with Kouros Boutique Hotel. Or Mykonos!! It is such a fun time and I highly recommend you hook it up with an island hopping adventure to Santorini!
